The Two Lights: Reading Your Life Through the Lunar Phases with Lianne McCafferty

The Sun and Moon are the original narrative of astrology, the first and most formative relationship in every chart. Before we chase every celestial body across the sky, the luminaries already reveal who we are, where we come from and how we move through life.

In this interactive talk, we’ll explore how the lights form the rhythm of our being and how we experience life. We’ll dive into the natal lunar phase and how it colours our instinctive approach to life as well as the progressed lunar cycle, the 29‑year cycle that describes the chapters of our story. We’ll also look at how lunar phases can enrich synastry, describing how two people’s inner tides meet, merge or challenge one another.

This is a return to the fundamentals and a reminder that the basics of astrology offer insight that is anything but basic!

The Twelfth Parts: A Hidden Key to the Horoscope with Mark Cullen

The twelfth‑parts create a kind of “micro‑zodiac” within every zodiac sign. First used by the Babylonians, they are one of the oldest astrological techniques developed after the twelve‑sign zodiac. Over time, Hellenistic, Medieval, and Indian astrologers all made use of them, and they continue to be part of modern astrological practice.

You may have come across them under different names—dodecatemory, duodena, , dwadashama, or simply dwads or duads. Whatever the term, the idea is the same: twelfth‑parts add an extra layer of meaning that astrologers across many traditions have found valuable for thousands of years.

In this talk, we’ll look at how twelfth‑parts work in practice and how they can offer fresh insights when interpreting a horoscope.

Mark Cullen studied with the Faculty of Astrological Studies and later completed Deborah Houlding’s STA qualification in horary astrology. He served as chair of the Scottish Astrological Association from 2011–16 and has been the mundane astrology moderator on the Skyscript website since 2010.

Mark holds an MA in History and enjoys researching a wide range of topics, including ancient, medieval, and Renaissance astrology, as well as mundane and financial astrology. He also has a long‑standing interest in Tarot, the I Ching, and number symbolism.

His spiritual outlook has been shaped by a long involvement in Buddhism since his early twenties. Mark lives in Edinburgh and works in the voluntary sector

The Body in the Birth Chart: A Vedic Perspective on Health with Avinash Lago

In this talk, Avinash Lago offers a compelling introduction to how Vedic Astrology understands the human body—not as separate from the cosmos, but as an expression of it. Drawing from the classical wisdom of Ayurveda, this session explores how planetary patterns at birth can reflect constitutional tendencies, vulnerabilities, and pathways toward balance.

Designed for those already familiar with astrology from a Western perspective, the talk bridges systems by introducing key Vedic concepts such as the sidereal zodiac, planetary rulership of the body, and the timing of health trends through dashas and transits. Through practical examples, you will see how imbalances may manifest and how these insights can support a more preventative, holistic approach to wellbeing.

Avinash Lago brings a diverse and international training background, having studied under multiple schools across the globe. His work is informed by associations with the British Association of Vedic Astrology, studies with David Frawley through VedaNet, and training with the Institute of Vedic Astrology. This breadth of lineage brings both depth and clarity to his approach.

Paradoxa Luminaria—Three Kaons of the Seven Lights with JD Kelley

Embedded within the coherence of Western Astrology are a series of fundamental relationships to the great circles, the elements, the luminaries, the planets, the signs, the stars, and the houses. These relationships are not exclusive to, but perhaps best approached foremost, through their arrangement in polarities.

Polarity, in a strict astrological sense, refers to the division of the twelve zodiacal signs into two groups, positive/odd/masculine/finite and negative/even/feminine/infinite, with roots in Pythagorean philosophy. However, we can approach the term in a broader way metaphysically to involve duality and the interplay of seemingly opposing forces.

By way of introduction we will focus on the wiliest of forms, Mercury. For it to be most fully understood astrologically, we can relate it to the polarity of which it is a part, that of the Mercurial-Jupiterian. Wherever we find Mercury we, too, find Jupiter. Considering the Mercurial and its associated impulses within this pairing offers a fuller spectrum of expression to clearly describe this necessarily ambiguous force. I will then venture further into exploring the implied relationships of the remaining seven classical lights to flesh out the paradoxa luminaria alongside suggestions of how to apply these concepts both practically through reflection and in a natal analysis.

While it may be easy to assume that these connections are allotted, fastened to their associations and like oil and water, never mix, this goes against the coherence implied within these relationships. For even prior to the sources of Hermetism, Heraclitus reminds us, “everything flows”, and, equally, “the way up and the way down are one and the same.” These fundamental relationships are paradoxical in nature—constantly pushing us to go beyond the polarities out of which they are made—and as such they are decidedly generative in effect, much like the cosmos from which they are based. It is these productive paradoxes, attesting and giving rise to plurality, that we will seek to explore.
